No: 197, 19 June 2017, Press Release Regarding the World Refugee Day

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 19.06.2017

Since centuries, Turkey has been extending a helping hand to people in need and keeps its doors open for those, who escaped from war, violence and persecution in their homelands, regardless of religion, language, culture and ethnicity.

With this understanding, Turkey today hosts 3.3 million people that had to flee from desperate conditions in their homelands, including more than 3 million Syrians that had to leave their country, since 2011.

Turkey has mobilized all her capabilities to improve the living conditions of the people she hosts.

As the Syrian humanitarian crisis has clearly proved, refugee and migration issues require responsibility and burden sharing.

In this context, Turkey does its best to bring sustainable solutions for the issues of migration and refugees in the fields of protection and humanitarian assistance.

Turkey calls the international community to act in line with the understanding of global burden and responsibility sharing.

On the occasion of the World Refugee Day of 20 June, Turkey emphasizes that she is in solidarity with people that had to leave their homelands and will continue to support these people.
